The Melting Dead [Kindle Edition]

The Melting Dead [Kindle Edition]

The Melting Dead [Kindle Edition]

The Melting Dead [Kindle Edition]

These aren't your daddy's zombies. Everything they grab hold of burns. Everyone they touch dies. Everything they kill comes back from the dead.
Angela Roskowic, a Chicago theatrical director and fanatical horror movie fan, and Professor Paul Rigas, a vacationing geologist, along with a crazy group of innocent and not-so-innocent characters are trapped on a secluded Mississippi River island, infested with bloodthirsty incendiary monsters, humans transformed by cosmic radiation. This B-movie between book covers is a true roller-coaster ride; a tale of terror to burst your heart with fear and make your sides ache with laughter.

As a bonus for horror fans and those who celebrate Halloween 24/7/365, woven throughout the prose are references to over 600 horror, science fiction and fantasy films. Relish the novel, fight the fear and find them all - if you dare.

Dead iSland Dead Water: A Shetland Mystery (Shetland Island Mysteries) Hardcover –

Review

Praise for Dead Water:
"Cleeves returns to a sea-bound land of crofters' cottages, barren rocks and fog, especially the fog surrounding the murders...the well-constructed procedural grains another dimension from Jimmy's re-engagement with his work and his life." —Kirkus Reviews

“Cleeves has an unusually deft hand with characters; not one of them seems purely plot functional, and Perez’s character keeps deepening with each book. The rough islands cresting the Atlantic fit the bleakness of the murders depicted here. This series is one of two that Cleeves has going; the other stars Northumberland detective Vera Stanhope and is a hit BBC series.” —Booklist (starred)
"Absorbing...Cleeves keeps readers guessing until the final page." —Publishers Weekly

Praise for the Shetland Island series:

“Nothing short of riveting." —Louise Penny
"Creates a dark enough mood to keep you straining to see what will come to light next." —People
"In true Christie fashion, Cleeves once more pulls the wool over our eyes with cunning and conviction." —Colin Dexter

"Gripping from start to finish."
--Booklist

"Deserves the top crime writer's prize in the United States this year. Don't miss this standout."
--Rocky Mountain News
"A riveting read."
---Val McDermid
"If you're a fan of Frances Fyfield, Minette Walters, or Val McDermid, get to know Cleeves."
---The Globe and Mail (UK)
Praise for the Vera Stanhope series
"Excellent . . . Intricate plotting makes for a compulsive read.”
—The Independent (UK)
“Detective Vera Stanhope is a remarkable creation.”

Dead Man's Island Mass Market Paperback

Wealthy, arrogant Chase Prescott invites his long-ago colleague Henrietta O'Dwyer Collins to come to his private island to try to determine who is trying to murder him. He tells her that an attempt has been made on his life and that he is determined to find the culprit. He invites anyone whom he feels had the motive and opportunity to Dead Man's Island (renamed Prescott Island by the egotistic Chase.) Henry O accepts his invitation and joins the others for a few days on the isolated, mysterious island off the coast of South Carolina. The problem she encounters is that everyone present does have a motive and that makes it difficult for her to find the culprit. The action becomes more exciting towards the end when a powerful hurricane threatens the island and murders begin to occur. The solution to the murder is a convoluted one which defies logic and which makes me wonder why Chase invited Henry O in the first place. The book is very readable, however, and gives the reader many pages of real suspense.

Dead iSland Dead Islands: Necrose Series Book One [Kindle Edition]

A pretty good opener to a series with enough action to “whet your appetite” so to speak and spark enough interest to read the next one to see how it all pans out and the story develops.

I thought the characters were interesting although seemed a bit “dim” and naive as to understanding and reacting to what was going on - particularly at the beginning - it was as if they had never seen or heard anything about zombies before … very strange!

The story, however, was well written with a good pace. I felt the sense of confusion and fear was put across really well and the descriptions of situations was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the airplane sequence but did feel it was a little downplayed; I expected more tension and panic which would have been more realistic in that particular scenario where there is no escape. This did however improve as the book moved on and things became a little more believable.

I admit that I haven’t read an awful lot of “zombie” books so don’t have a lot to compare against but I do watch these types of films/programmes and feel this stands up quite well and, as I said, is a pretty good opener and I am tempted to read the next book in the series.

I also love the cover.

I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and be sent a copy of this eBook by the author in return for an honest review; this did not determine the outcome of my review.

Riptide Official Strategy Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames))
Dead iSland Dead Island: Riptide Official Strategy Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames)) Paperback – April 23, 2013

for anyone else out there who had the game guide to the first game, we know it was good, but not fantastic. that being said, this guide seems a little better than the first, but still with a few weird issues.

the chapters are as follows:

game basics
palanai guide to zombie watching
walkthrough (198 pages of the guide is dedicated solely to this)
team quests
weapon crafting
collectibles
points of interest
co-op play
achievements and trophies

the game basics are helpful, both to newcomers, and as a refresher to anyone who has played the first game. the character outlines are great, especially for the new character. if you played the first, you can import your original character to the new game at the level you were at, with all the skills you had invested in. if you choose not to do this and start fresh with the new character (who looks pretty great), you apparently get 15 points to spend right off the bat.

the enemy listing is fantastic. it's always nice to know their weaknesses.

the walkthrough is solid. it is filled with decent sized photos so you can see what the text is referencing. some guides print impossibly small photos along with the walkthrough, and i can safely say this guide does not suffer from that issue.

i really enjoyed the weapon crafting section. not only does it have a full list of blueprints, but also where or how you obtain them, as well as what is required to craft them. this will prove to invaluable along the way.

the collectibles section is fantastic. numbered items on the map show exactly where you will find them.

the points of interest section was a nifty addition.

Dead iSland and There's More to Life Than This: Healing Messages, Remarkable Stories, and Insight About the Other Side from the Long Island Medium Paperback – September 9,
I grew up on Long Island in a town called Hicksville, with my mom, dad, and younger brother, Michael. Mom was a bookkeeper and my dad was the public works supervisor for Nassau County. We were extremely close and still are. I was actually raised for most of my life in the house next door to the one I live in now. We have a gate in the back that connects our two yards, and Dad likes to use it so he can futz around in both our tomato gardens. When people come for readings, they sit at my dining room table, which looks out onto the back. I always say, “If you see someone out there, its not a dead person walking around. I just my dad!
Growing up, I had the most loving, happy, and seemingly normal childhood. I was on a traveling soccer team and local bowling league. I loved playing with my dolls hair I always thought I be a hairdresser, go figure. I had nice friends, got good grades, and spent a lot of free time with my family. I was always with my cousins, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. On Thursdays, we’d have spaghetti and meatballs at Nanny and Pop’s house; on Saturdays, Id paint ceramics with Auntie G; and on Sundays, our whole extended family would go to Gram and Gramps house after church to spend the afternoon eating, laughing, and telling stories.
